Detailed Fitting Guide
Overview
Reformé Shield is supplied flat. During fitting, the shield is heated, pre-curved with the FitKit, positioned on the leg, and allowed to cool in place. Once cooled, the shield retains its adapted shape.
Prepare the FitKit
Prepare the FitKit before heating the shin guard.
Remove the twist caps and separate the FitKit components.
Take one C-tube and gently press it together until one edge overlaps the other.
Place the twist wedge of one twist cap onto the exposed outer edge of the C-tube.
Pull the inner edge of the C-tube outward and guide it onto the twist wedge.
Make sure the twist wedge is positioned between both edges of the C-tube.
Rotate the twist cap approximately 90° clockwise to open the C-tube.
Repeat the same procedure for the second C-tube.
Place both opened C-tubes within reach before heating the shin guard.
Recommended Method — Household Oven
Heat the shield
Preheat a conventional oven with top and bottom heat to approximately 85 °C.
Place a baking tray inside the oven while preheating.
Place the shin guard on the baking tray with the padding side facing upward.
Heat for approximately 15 minutes, until the material becomes flexible.
Carefully remove the shin guard from the oven tray.
The shin guard should be flexible, but still handled carefully and steadily.
Alternative Method — Hot Water
Choose a suitable heat-resistant container, such as a casserole dish.
Pre-heat the container using hot tap water, then empty it.
Boil approximately 1.5 litres of water in a household water kettle.
Pour the boiled water into the empty container.
Wait a few seconds for temperature stabilisation.
Place the shin guard into the water with the padding side facing upward.
Let the Reformé Shield float for approximately 5 minutes.
Carefully remove the shield and briefly dry it with a towel.
Pre-Curve with the FitKit
Carefully and evenly pre-curve the heated shin guard by hand around the smaller FitKit tube.
The padding side must face inward.
Insert the pre-curved shin guard and the smaller FitKit tube into the two opened C-tubes.
Turn the twist caps counterclockwise and slide them out of the C-tubes.
The C-tubes close around the shin guard and create an even curvature.
Leave the shin guard in the FitKit for approximately 1 minute, or until it retains a light curvature when removed.
Remove the Reformé Shield from the FitKit by sliding the C-tubes outward.
Fit on the leg
Position the pre-curved Reformé Shield on your shin.
Pull your football sock fully over the shin guard.
Adjust the position by hand until the fit feels stable and comfortable.
Press gently to ensure full surface contact.
Allow the shield to cool for approximately 10 minutes.
Do not use the shin guard for play before it has fully cooled and regained its stiffness.
NOTE: You may take care of other tasks while your Reformé Shield hardens.
Fit check
After fitting, your Reformé Shield should:
lie flush against the shin
follow the natural shape of your lower leg
feel stable under the football sock
not tilt or shift excessively during movement
not interfere with knee or ankle movement
feel firm again after cooling completely
If the fit does not feel right, the shield can be reheated and adjusted again.
Need to adjust the fit again?
Reformé Shield can be reheated and reshaped when needed.
For repeat fitting, we strongly recommend using the household oven method. Before reheating, inspect the shin guard for visible cracks, perforation, material separation, or severe structural damage.
If the product looks intact, repeat the fitting process and adjust the shape as needed.
FAQ / Fitting Troubleshooting
Here are the most common questions during the fitting process.
-
Wait until it can be handled safely. The shield should be warm and flexible, but not unpleasantly hot to touch. Once it is safe to handle, continue with the FitKit and fitting process.
NOTE: Some household ovens overshoot the temperature on low settings and run too hot. If the shin guard feels too hot, give the oven more time to reach a stable temperature.
-
Check whether the heating time and temperature were sufficient. If necessary, heat the shield again following the recommended method.
NOTE: Some resistance of the shin guard is normal, as the internal reinforcement structure and the padding do not soften considerably when heated. Make sure to bend the shin guard slowly and carefully.
-
Yes. Reformé Shield can be reheated and reshaped. Repeat the fitting process and adjust the curvature until the fit feels right.
-
Reheat the shield and adjust the fit by hand during the final fitting step. Make sure the football sock is pulled fully over the shield while it cools.
-
Slight wrinkling around the flexible edge area can occur after fitting. During heating, the inner core can flow, while the flexible outer casing adapts to the new curved shape.
Wrinkling can be reduced by bending the shin guard slowly and evenly, giving the core time to flow and settle into the new curvature. Avoid pressing strongly into the corners or edges with individual fingertips during shaping. Use broad, gentle pressure instead.
Once the shield has cooled completely, the core solidifies again and the product regains its stiffness.
-
The FitKit is strongly recommended because it creates a controlled, even pre-curvature and helps avoid sharp folds during fitting. Reliably overcoming the resistance of the internal reinforcement and the padding can be challenging.
-
No. Allow the shield to cool fully before use. It should feel firm again before it is used during football.
