Frequently Asked Question

1. Product & core concept

  1. What is the reformé Shield?

    • The reformé Shield is a heat mouldable shin guard for football players. It is delivered flat, heated at home, and then shaped to fit the contours of your shin.

  2. How does the reformé Shield differ from conventional shin guards?

    • Conventional shin guards are supplied in a fixed shape. The reformé Shield is shaped to your leg after purchase and combines a protective shell, reinforcement, and padding within one integrated structure.

  3. How does the reformé Shield differ from other adaptable shin guards?

    • The reformé Shield is not only mouldable. It combines a stable protective structure with integrated padding, a breathable internal structure, and a controlled fitting process using the FitKit. The padding remains an integral part of the shin guard and does not need to be inserted or attached separately and the shin guard remains mouldable and remouldable even with the padding. The reformé Shield therefore uniquely combines the advantages of adaptable and fixed shin guards in one product.

  4. Why is the shin guard delivered flat?

    • The flat shape allows the shin guard to be heat moulded to your own leg in a controlled manner. It only receives its individual curvature during the fitting process.

  5. Is the reformé Shield a custom made shin guard?

    • No. The reformé Shield is not a conventional made to measure product. It is manufactured in standardised sizes and then individually shaped by you. This creates a fit that sits between a standard product and a fully custom made shin guard.

  6. Can the reformé Shield be reshaped?

    • Yes. The reformé Shield can be heat moulded again when required, provided that it shows no visible damage such as cracks, holes, delamination, or severe deformation.

2. Protection and Intended Use

  1. Is the reformé Shield certified?

    • Yes. The reformé Shield is certified in accordance with EN 13061:2009 for shin guards used in football.

  2. Which sport is the reformé Shield designed for?

    • The reformé Shield is intended exclusively for football. It is not designed for ice hockey, combat sports, motorsport, industrial work, or any other sport or activity.

  3. Can the reformé Shield completely prevent injuries?

    • No. No shin guard can guarantee complete protection against injury. The reformé Shield is designed to reduce the risk and severity of certain impacts in football, but it cannot eliminate the possibility of injury.

  4. When should I stop using the shin guard?

    • Stop using the shin guard if you notice cracks, holes, delamination, perforations, severe deformation, exposed or leaking core material, or significant damage following an impact.

3. Size and Fit

  1. Which size do I need?

    • Choose your size according to your height or lower leg length. The shin guard should cover the central area of your shin without interfering with your knee or ankle.

  2. What should I do if I am between two sizes?

    • If you are between two sizes, choose according to how much coverage you prefer and how much space is available beneath your football sock. The shin guard must not restrict your movement.

  3. How should the reformé Shield fit after moulding?

    • The shin guard should sit evenly against your shin without causing pressure, tilting, or moving out of position. It should remain stable beneath your football sock.

  4. Is there a separate right and left shin guard?

    • Before moulding, both shin guards are identical. An individual right and left side are created only when the guards are shaped to your right and left leg.

  5. How can I tell the right and left shin guards apart?

    • After moulding, each shin guard will normally fit best on the leg to which it was shaped and marking is usually not required. If both guards have a very similar shape, you can mark them with a permanent marker.

4. Moulding and the FitKit

  1. How does the heat moulding process work?

    • The shin guard is heated in a controlled manner, given an initial curvature using the FitKit, and then placed against the leg beneath the football sock to form its final shape. As it cools, it becomes rigid again and retains the adapted shape.

  2. Why is a fitting tool required?

    • The FitKit enables reliable moulding despite the integrated padding structure. It creates an even and controlled initial curvature and helps prevent sharp creases, uneven bending, and excessive local stress on the material.

  3. Can I mould the reformé Shield without the FitKit?

    • We strongly recommend using the FitKit during the moulding process. Without the FitKit, there is an increased risk of bending the shin guard unevenly, creating creases, or causing damage. Damage caused by moulding without the FitKit or contrary to the instructions is not considered a product defect. Fitting results are also improved greatly when using the reformé FitKit.

  4. Why must the shin guard not be creased or twisted?

    • Creasing, twisting, or bending the shin guard against its intended direction of curvature can damage the material structure. This may cause cracks, holes, or open areas in the outer shell.

  5. What should I do if the first fit is not perfect?

    • You can simply repeat the moulding process. Before doing so, carefully inspect the shin guard for cracks, holes, delamination, or any other visible damage.

5. Surface and Product Characteristics

  1. Are visible print lines or minor surface variations normal?

    • Yes. The reformé Shield is additively manufactured. Visible layer lines, slight variations in texture, and minor cosmetic differences are normal and do not automatically constitute a defect.

  2. The corners of my shin guard have developed a wavy surface after moulding. How can this be avoided?

    • A wavy surface can develop around the corners if excessive local pressure is applied or if the shin guard is bent unevenly during moulding. Use the FitKit, slowly curve the shin guard by hand around the narrow FitKit tube, and carefully insert it into the larger tubes without using force. Avoid creasing the guard or applying strong pressure to individual areas. If waves occur, the moulding process can be repeated.

  3. Why does the inside not look like conventional foam padding?

    • The inside consists of a three dimensional, integrated TPU cushioning structure. Its open design allows padding, ventilation, and adaptability to be combined within a single structure.

6. Care, Returns, and Launch

  1. How should I clean and store the reformé Shield?

    • The reformé Shield can be washed at a maximum temperature of 40 °C. Allow it to air dry afterwards. Do not store it in direct sunlight, on radiators, inside hot vehicles, or at temperatures above 50 °C.

  2. Can I return the reformé Shield after moulding it?

    • Once the shin guard has been heat moulded, it has been individually shaped and can no longer be sold as a new product. A standard return is therefore no longer possible. Your statutory rights regarding defective products remain unaffected.

  3. Can I return personalised shin guards?

    • Personalised shin guards featuring initials, names, logos, club graphics, or individual designs are excluded from the right of withdrawal if they were produced according to the customer’s specifications. Your statutory rights regarding defective products remain unaffected.

  4. What should I inspect before heat moulding the shin guard?

    • Before moulding, inspect the shin guard for cracks, holes, open areas, delamination, severe deformation, shipping damage, or any other visible irregularities. If you notice anything unusual, do not heat or shape the shin guard. Contact us first.
